Team Building Activities

As contrary to what many people believe, team building is not only for corporate workplaces. It is also very beneficial in the classroom and motivates the students to work together and collaborate, solve problems, and make decisions. The best thing about team building is that it does not fail; even if the students are unable to achieve the desired goals, they still learn to work with each other, brainstorm, and develop ideas that can take them on higher levels. Engaging and relevant team-building activities for students help to keep the energy levels high in the classroom and students get a chance to do much more than just move forward academically.

According to experts of assignment writing services, when students work in a team and get group tasks, they learn to listen, trust and support each other. At the same time, they also develop life skills such as communications and collaboration that cannot be learned from textbooks or manuals. Learning to get along with peers is not something that can be memorized, it is something that students learn by interaction and cooperation.

Team building activities are very valuable as they help students improve their communication skills with each other that transfer to their work or club projects later on. Team building activities also incorporate skills such as active listening, questioning assumptions, giving clear directions, problem-solving, or learning how to ask effective questions. With the right team-building activities in college, students can look forward to better skill development and the ability to do well in their class. Discussed here are some top team-building activities that are not only interactive but fun too and give them a chance to think out of the box.

Spaghetti Tower:

In this activity, students are divided into teams and provided with ‘building’ materials, such as dry spaghetti, marshmallows, string, and tape. The time limit is set for designing and building a spaghetti tower; a tower that is structurally sound and stands on its own. When the time is over, the tallest freestanding tower will win. The idea behind this activity is to promote communication and collaboration within the team and students work together to produce desired results.

Scavenger Hunt:

As contrary to popular belief, the scavenger hunt is not only for small children but it is a great activity for adults too as it requires some preparation and encourages students to work together.  The students work together to plan a strategy, distribute tasks among team members and communicate progress. The students are divided into teams and given limited time in which they will have to find as many items as possible from the list they have been provided. This activity can be made even more challenging by providing clues, or riddles instead of the names of items.

Deserted Island:

In this team-building activity, students are asked to imagine they are stranded on a deserted island. After they have been divided into teams, they are provided with a list of items for survival. Participants must prioritize and rank those items, first on their own, and then as a group. This activity tests their problem-solving skills and helps them distinguish between their individual and collective needs.

Goodie Bag Skits:

This is one team-building activity that can take students out of their comfort zones and pushes them to do much more than they would normally do. The class is divided into a team of up to 8 or 10 people and each team is provided a ‘goodie bag’ that contains some random items.  there is a time limit for each group to come up with a short skit based on the items in the bag; the teams are required to present their skill the best one will be declared the winner.

Idea Building Blocks:

The class is divided into teams and presented with a problem; this can be a real-life problem or something related to the course they are studying. One team member will write down a solution and passes the piece of paper along to the next team member, who builds upon that idea. This piece of paper will be passed around until each team member has added to the original solution. When their time is up, a spokesperson will present their final solution to the rest of the group or the class.

There are hundreds of team-building activities that can benefit students in their college, and help them learn some critical communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Along with these, students can also focus on building trust while working in groups and learn all about planning, and management that will support them in their academic, as well as professional life, in the long run.
